Prof. Sabu Thomas
Prof. Sabu Thomas is a native of Kottayam, and married to Dr. Anne George. They have two children. He joined School of Chemical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, India in 1987 and at present he is the professor of Polymer Science & Engineering. His research interests cover a wide range of topics, which include polymer blends, particulate filled polymer composites, fibre reinforced composites,
nanocomposites, transport properties of membrane systems, interpenetrating polymer systems, double net works in elastomers and recyclability and reuse of waste plastics and rubbers.
Prof. Thomas undertook a post-doctoral assignment at Macromolecular Science Engineering Research Center, Laval University, Quebec, Canada in 1991. He also was a visiting Professor at the laboratory of Macromoleculecular Structural Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Catholic University, Leuven, Belgium from 1996 to 2004. Prof. Thomas has several collaborative research programmes with leading institutes and companies in the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America. He is also a reviewer of a number of international journals like Journal of American Chemical Society, Macromolecules, Polymer, Polymer Engineering & Science, Journal of Applied Polymer Science and Composite Science & Technology. He had been to the universities in Europe, USA, Asia and South America as plenary and invited speaker. Prof. Thomas is a member of several professional organisations. He is also a fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry.
Prof. Thomas has published more than 250 research papers in international refereed journals. Further, he contributed a number of book chapters and edited a book on phase morphology of polymer blends. So far he has supervised 30 Ph.D programmes and 18 M. Phil programmes. Prof. Thomas’ group bagged more than 25 awards and prizes for the research excellence in Polymer Science & Engineering from leading national and international research organizations.
At present he is supervising more than twenty doctoral students.
